Ma
began to play the Erhu when she was only seven years old; her studies finally
leading her to the Central Conservatory of Music from which she graduated
with a Masters' Degree.
In 1989 she received first prize in the Teenagers Group of Professional
Erhu players, awarded by the ART Cup Chinese Musical Instrument International
Competition. In 1997 she won another first prize at the Taipei Chinese
Musical Instrument Competition.
Among other countries, Ma has performed in Australia, Japan and has performed
with world famous orchestras such as the Royal Philharmonic, Tokyo Symphony
Orchestra and the Central Philharmonic Orchestra of China and has given
recitals in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and North America.
In addition, she has recorded several albums of Erhu pieces.
